Navigating and Developing Academia-Industry Research Partnerships (Mar. 5)

February 14 - May 11, 2024

UBC SPARC and Innovation Partnerships will host a speaker series focused on the development of research partnerships between academia and industry. Both academic and industrial partners will discuss their experiences in developing academia-industry relationships, considerations on formulating value proposition and engagement approach to partner(s), insights on securing support from funding agencies (e.g. NSERC) and partner organizations, and avenues to longer-term sustainability of the relationship.

Dr. Walter Mérida (Professor of Mechanical Engineering, ADR Research and Industry Partnerships, Faculty of Applied Science) and David St. Angelo (Chief Technology Officer at Carbon Engineering), and Dr. Ilija Miskovic (Assistant Professor of Mining Engineering) and Reem Youssef (UBC Relationship Manager at Rogers Communications) will be the panelists invited to this first event. Pam Giberson from the NSERC Pacific Regional Office will also be present to provide information about the NSERC Alliance grant, NSERC's funding program to support research partnerships.

This event is the first of a series focused on the development of research partnerships. The next event will be held in April (details forthcoming), and will examine in more specific detail the partner organization’s perspective, approach, expectations and goals when considering research partnership work with academia.
